National Masterplan Maritime Technologies
About NMMT

Adopted by the German Federal Cabinet in 2011 and under the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) the National Masterplan Maritime Technologies (NMMT) has since contributed on the development of innovation strategies for various maritime topics, which can be subsumed under the designation "Blue Growth".

Also set out in the “Maritime Agenda 2025” the main maritime technology fields covered by the MNNT were deep-sea mining, technologies for offshore wind energy as well as underwater, polar and ice technologies. One of the most active initiatives has been the technology filed “maritime safety and security”, which put the initiative MARISSA on a national level and started a number of cluster building activities and triggered the starting of the national research programme on maritime safety and security in the context of maritime research programmes under the roof of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).

Due to the update adopted in June 2018, the NMMT experienced a thematic extension including topics such as innovative special-purpose shipbuilding, low-emission and low-pollutant maritime transport chains, port system technology and digitization in the maritime industry.
