Ports are intercontinental interfaces for shipping, export and import and by this of major economic meaning for the functioning of international trade of goods of all kind. Technically integrated processes and sophisticated software in this context are of utmost importance to the complex systems running. The resilience of the software used, with its processes in ports, is crucial for the trouble-free operation and unhindered flow of commodities. Between arriving at port and departing from the port, hundreds of individual processes must be processed. Each of them has a certain susceptibility to failure regarding the software used.

In this context it needs to be said: It is not the question of whether a major system-critical software failure occurs, but when!

MARISSA Day 2 will discuss stabilisation and robustness of international logistics chains by addressing possible malfunction or failure of software in the process. This includes possible improvements of the system resilience. In case of disruptions, the focus is not necessarily on criminal intents, but on any form of software impairment and failure in port operations.

Following a keynote, MARISSA-Day 2 will share the different viewpoints of a Vessel Coordination Centre, a large German port, an international port organization, a global shipping company and an organization working on cyber risk certification.

Finally, MARISSA-Day 2 will serve as a dialogue platform offering time for free discussions. We are looking forward to welcoming you in the virtual MARISSA space on 14 September 2021 (10.00 – 13.00h CEST).
