MARISSA Day 11
Maritime Digitalisation under Threat – Cyber Risk Management in Shipping, Ports and Infrastructures
Event date: 20 September 2023

The world is rapidly changing with the extensive and all-embracing introduction of digital technologies. High-speed online processes and transactions, globally accessible cloud computing and blockchain technologies, and the introduction of intelligent and autonomous machines and platforms are about to change the world of global transport beyond any earlier predictions.

Ports, ships, and shipping lanes are vital elements of this globally interconnected transport and logistics network. To ensure the safe, reliable, and economically viable provision of these services, digital technologies and IT processes are absolutely key. At the same time, public awareness of the growing dependencies on the safe and secure functioning of these infrastructures grows at an ever-increasing pace.

And it’s not only about the physical protection of infrastructure and assets! With technological advances also comes a massive threat of cybercrime, which continually develops new attack types, tools, and techniques that allow attackers to penetrate more and more complex and well-protected environments to produce increased damage while themselves remaining untraceable. In the first few months of the first COVID pandemic year alone, attempted cyberattacks rose by 400%, with a further significant increase until today.

For our MARISSA Day 11 we have therefore invited

  • Dr. Moritz Brake, Independent expert for maritime security and strategy, Germany
  • Lukas Holst, Industrial Engineer and IT Security Expert, BT Nord Group, Germany
  • Aybars Oruc, Founder of Cyber Onboard, Partner of BM Bergmann Marine, Turkey
  • Rod Weir, Chief Revenue Officer, Akimbo Technologies, Canada
  • Andrea Minardi, Responsible Servizio Smart Port e Security, Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare Adriatico Centro-Settentrionale, Italy

internationally renowned speakers to share their experience and views on today’s cyber challenges and counter strategies. We are about to learn from latest trends and development in combating maritime cyber attackers and attacks. At the same time our speakers shall also address actual trends and initiatives at the political and legal level to adapt global frameworks for the cyber-safe cooperation in global trade and transport.
