MARISSA Day 5
Security challenges in coastal areas
Event date: 13 January 2022

The maritime sector is vital to people's lives and forms an important basis for prosperity and economic globalization. Maritime resources, especially in coastal regions, are the basis for a growing population. This population is increasingly concentrated in coastal regions. For example, 15 of the world's 20 largest cities are located on the coast. In addition, maritime transport corridors are the lifelines of globalization, and about 90 percent of world trade is carried by sea.

Maritime coastal areas and their protection are therefore a particular focus. The challenge is to protect maritime infrastructure, coastal areas, and the maritime space itself. Particular attention must therefore be paid to the management of events that threaten the human habitat. This includes tasks such as protecting critical maritime infrastructure and maritime areas to prevent illegal activities, protecting the global supply chain, ensuring freedom of navigation, and protecting the maritime environment. This can be achieved through the use of advanced information platforms and safety and security applications.

At MARISSA Day 5 "Security Challenges in Coastal Areas", we will provide insight into today's maritime coastal security tasks, give an overview of current projects and activities, and discuss the technologies and tasks needed in the future.
